Safer, more resilient neighborhoods · Los Angeles Westside

There’s safety in neighbors.

Aware Neighbors began by putting free security cameras on Westside homes. Today we bring neighbors together with practical, privacy-first technology across the things that keep a community safe — from smart-home security to preparedness gear and support for our first responders.

Technology, put in residents' hands

We fund and distribute practical safety and resilience technology directly to residents — at no cost — and make it simple to request, receive, and set up.

Privacy-first, always

Programs are designed so residents stay in control of their own data. We don't collect device footage, IDs, or account credentials — and we never sell personal information.

Neighbor-led, community-scale

Aware Neighbors is run by neighbors, in partnership with community and business associations, to reach an entire area — not just one home at a time.

Our initiatives

Programs that make whole communities safer.

Proven on the Westside

Our first program put cameras where residents wanted them.

Over nine months, Aware Neighbors gave free wifi security cameras and floodlights to single-family homes across eight Westside neighborhoods. Each pin on the map is a participating home — and residents kept complete control of their own footage.

Business expansion · Cotner Avenue

Extending the model to local businesses.

Building on the residential rollout, Aware Neighbors brought free Blink Floodlight Cameras to businesses along the Cotner Avenue corridor — an area long troubled by crime — in partnership with the Westside Neighborhood Council, the LAPD, Council District 5, and the Los Angeles City Attorney. The effort was led by Lisa Morocco, WNC Business Representative and an Aware Neighbors board member, giving owners and officers a better chance to deter and solve crime.
